David T. Ruegg, Esq.
Attorney Ruegg built his practice on one deliberately narrow foundation: the division of retirement benefits in divorce. He has been profiled in the Riverside Lawyer as one of a small number of retirement-benefits specialists in California, handling matters in counties across the state — an analytical corner of family law where pension plans are complex and military retirements, with their constantly changing criteria, are more complex still. He holds his B.S. from the University of Southern California and his law degree from Chapman University with a tax emphasis certificate, is licensed in California and Texas, and has testified in court as a QDRO expert.
He writes and teaches in the field: author of published bar journal articles on QDRO judgment language errors, cash-outs and tax ramifications, and enforcement of QDROs (ACFLS); contributing editor and author of the retirement benefits section of the Lawgic drafting software; and presenter of MCLE continuing-education video courses on QDRO practice through Attorney's Briefcase. He has served as co-chair of the Riverside County Bar Association Family Law Section and speaks to bar audiences on military retirement division. His publications and podcast episodes are collected in our library.
Family law attorneys throughout California refer their QDRO matters to the firm, and the practice now serves clients in Texas as well. In every case, clients work directly with a team that handles these orders every day.
